First-Place Katherine Muzi, Christine Wang Lead USC Women's Golf On Pac-12 Preview Day Two

Nov 2, 2021
Christine Wang fired a Trojan career-best 1-under 72 Tuesday.

Senior Katherine Muzi followed her career-best first-round with a 2-under second round to remain atop the field Tuesday (Nov. 2) at the Pac-12 Preview at the Nanea G.C. in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, while sophomore Christine Wang posted her own Trojan best as the No. 22 USC women's golf team remained in second place.

USC, which won the tournament in the fall of 2013, combined for a par 292 second round and now stands at 2-under 582 (290-292), three back of top-ranked Stanford and three ahead Arizona while Oregon State is fourth at 8-over.

Muzi leads the field by two strokes at 7-under 139 (68-71), following up her 5-under 68 with a 2-under round highlighted by a 3-under back 9. It was her fifth round under par this season and sixth of par or better as she tries to better the career-best 10th-place effort she posted at the Stanford Intercollegiate.

She is trying to become the second Trojan to win the tournament. Robynn Ree won it in 2016 at 6-under 213.

Sophomore Brianna Navarrosa (75-73) and freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou (70-78) are tied for 10th at 2-over 148. Navarrosa birdied 18 and 1 to secure a par second round. Kou is looking for her fourth top 15 to start the season.

Wang fired a career-best 1-under 72 to move into a tie for 17th at 3-over 149 (77-72). Starting on 5, she birdied 15 to get to par today and birdied her final hole on 4 for her first sub-par round as a Trojan.

Sophomore Michaela Morard is tied for 37th at 7-over 153 (77-76).

Play finishes Wednesday with another shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HT (10:30 a.m. PT).
