Forsterling Leads ASU on Day Two of Pac-12 Preview

Nov 2, 2021

KONA, HI - Sun Devil Women's Golf finished the second round of the Pac-12 Preview, taking place at Nanea Golf Club.

Arizona State is in ninth-place and was led by the duo of senior Alexandra Forsterling and sophomore Ashley Menne on day two of the event. The Sun Devils still have 18 more holes to make up ground, with Menne and Forsterling in contention for a Top-10 finish.

"The Sun Devils had a tough day today," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye observed. "We certainly did not play our best. Lexi (Alexandra Forsterling) was the leader today with a very good -2.  We are determined to finish tomorrow and the fall season strong."

Alexandra Forsterling set the pace for the Maroon & Gold, delivering an excellent performance. She moved up 28 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 10th thanks to a 71 (-2), tied for the fifth-best round of the day by anyone in the field. She caught fire towards the end of her round, recording birdies on four of her final eight holes. Forsterling shaved six strokes off her score from yesterday due in large part to her success on par-four holes, as her scoring average is Top-10 on such opportunities.

Joining Forsterling in carding a solid round was Ashley Menne, who also made a jump up the leaderboard. She moved up ten spots and into a tie for 17th after shooting a 74 (+1), the second-best round on the day for the team. Menne finished with three birdies and no bogeys over her last eight holes, hoping to carry over the momentum built into the final around. She has been very successful on par-four chances, currently tied for 6th in scoring average on those holes.

After a rough start to the day, Calynne Rosholt finished bogey-free over her final seven holes to build some confidence heading into the next round. Her 27 pars are tied for the second-most of any golfer in the field. She will be looking to capitalize on more birdie opportunities tomorrow.

Arizona State is back at it tomorrow, with all five golfers teeing-off at 7:30 AM. Arizona State will be paired with Washington State, California, and Hawaii with the five Sun Devils spread out from holes 6-10 to start the round. Here is how Coach Farr-Kaye's team will begin the final day of the Pac-12 Preview.

Pac-12 Preview Tee Times (MST):
Alexandra Forsterling, 10:30 am (Hole 11)
Ashley Menne, 10:30 am (Hole 12)
Calynne Rosholt, 10:30 am (Hole 13)
Alessandra Fanali, 10:30 am (Hole 14)
Amanda Linner, 10:30 am (Hole 15)

The Sun Devils are extremely familiar with the Pac-12 Preview, as they have participated in all eight prior editions of the event. Back in 2019, Coach Farr-Kaye's team finished in third place behind Top-10 performances from Raquel Olmos and Alexandra Forsterling. As a team, the Maroon & Gold posted a 869 (-7), the lowest-ever by the program at the Pac-12 Preview. They took home the team title in 2016, as Sophia ZeebLinnea Strom, and Monica Vaughn all placed in the Top-10. Arizona State rode a strong effort from Strom to a second-place finish in the 2015 Pac-12 Preview, earning second-place in the individual standings thanks to her score of 215 (-4). A Sun Devil has yet to win an individual title at the Pac-12 Preview.
