Women's Soccer Hosts Colorado for Senior Day

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's soccer team hosts Colorado on Friday for Senior Day. Senior day festivities will happen before the match. Show up early and honor our eight student-athletes. First kick is set for 3 p.m. MT from Ute Field.

Honoring Our Senior Class
Before the match on Friday, the Utes will honor the contributions of eight senior student-athletes; Makayla Christensen, Brooklyn James, Hanna Olsen, Ali Schinko, Anna Escobedo, Brianna Pearson, Eden Jacobsen, and Hillary Noakes. The ceremony will start around 2:45 p.m. MT. Please arrive early and help us honor our seniors! 
 
Promotions 
The Utes will honor their 2021 senior class before the match on Friday. Arrive early, so you don't miss out on the senior ceremonies. Fans, if you bring a can food item, you will receive FREE admission to the contest. 
 
Last Time Out
The Utes last took to the field on Sunday afternoon in Tempe against Arizona State. Utah was defeated 4-1 in the game, with the Ute's goal coming from Courtney Talbot in the 11' minute of the match. The Utes held possession for 54 percent of the game. Megan Quiggle made her first collegiate start and tallied four saves. 
 
Scouting Colorado
Colorado enters Friday with a record of 8-7-3 on the season and is 3-4-3 in Pac-12 play. Colorado is led by Danny Sanchez, who is in his tenth season at the helm of the Buffalos. Colorado has won two of its last three matches, including a 1-0 victory over Arizona on Sunday. Shyra James scored the goal for Colorado in the victory. The Other win for Colorado during this three-game stretch was against Oregon State on October 24. The Buffs are averaging 1.67 goals per game and are attempting 12.2 shots per game. Shyra James leads the Buffs in goals scored with eight on the season. James has scored four goals in the last three games for Colorado. Shanade Hopcroft leads Colorado with 22 points on the season. She has six goals and ten assists. The ten assists for Hopcroft are the most in the Pac-12. Six Buffs have tallied two or more goals. Dani Hansen has appeared in started 17 of the 18 games in goal for Colorado. She has a goals-against-average of 1.53 and recorded 63 saves.  
 
Last Year Against Colorado 
Last season, Utah and Colorado met twice, once in Salt Lake City and again in Boulder. Colorado defeated the Utes in both matchups. In the first meeting on March 20, Utah outshot the Buffs 21-14 but was defeated 1-0. The second meeting came on April 16, the last regular-season game of the year. Utah's Eden Jacobsen scored the match's first goal in the 23' minute of action, but it was not enough as Colorado won 2-1. Utah outshot the Buffs 12-11 in the matchup. 
 
All-Time Against Colorado
The Utes are 6-10-2 all-time against Colorado; however, Utah is 5-3-0 when playing Colorado in Salt Lake City. Since 2011, Utah and Colorado have faced each other to close out the regular season. Utah holds a record of 5-3-2 in these matchups, including a win over No. 21 to close out the 2018 season.    
 
Winning at Home
The Utes are winning .590 percent of their home games since the 2016 season. This season, the Utes are averaging 1,172 fans per game. Utah is currently 4-4-2 at home this season and, since 2016, has not had a losing season at home. Utah will look for its fifth win of the season at home on Friday. The Utes won eight home games during the 2016 season, the most during this span. 
 
Last Dance at Ute Field
Friday will mark the last chance for Eden Jacobsen to play at Ute Field. Jacobsen came to Utah during the 2015 season and now has appeared in 92 games for Utah. After playing her first three seasons from 2015-17, Jacobsen went and served a one-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint in Florida. Once she was back, she missed the 2019 season because of a medical redshirt. She made her first appearance since 2017 in 2020 during the spring season after the pandemic pushed the season. She has started all 19 games this season and has tallied one goal. 
 
Talbot Puts Up Career-Numbers
Junior captain Courtney Talbot continues to put up career numbers this season for the Utes. On Sunday, she scored her fifth goal of the season, the most in a single season. Her previous high was two goals scored in 2019. She now has eight career goals. She has one assist on the season and a team-high 11 points. 
 
Corner Kicks 
Utah has taken 92 corner kicks this season, 21 more than its opponents. Utah has taken 45 corner kicks in the first half, 44 in the second half, and three in overtime. Utah is averaging 4.84 corner kicks per game this season. 
 
Pac-12 Saves Leaders
Entering the final matches of the regular season, sophomore Chelsea Peterson ranks second in the Pac-12 in saves with 74. Only Hope Hisey of Arizona has tallied more. Peterson has recorded 4.11 saves per game.
 
Scoring Duo For the Utes
Courtney Talbot and Taliana Kaufusi have been a scoring duo for the Utes this season. Talbot leads the team with five goals, while Kaufusi follows with four goals. The duo has scored nine of Utah's 18 goals this season. Since September 16, there has only been one game where Talbot or Kaufusi did not achieve a goal.
