Reese, Thomas, Named Preseason All-Pac-12

SAN FRANCISCO – Sam Thomas and Cate Reese have both been voted to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Team by the media, the league announced on Tuesday. Arizona was picked to finish fifth in the conference in the same poll.
Thomas, a senior from Las Vegas, has been a key piece for the Wildcats since she arrived on campus for the 2017-18 season. The 6-0 Thomas was named All-Pac-12, All-Pac-12 Defensive Team, CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American, the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Elite 90 Award Winner after last season. She also finds herself all over the Arizona record book as she ranks third for games played (125), second in games started (125), second in minutes played (4,230), fifth in three-point shooting percentage (.361), eighth in steals (220) and second in blocked shots (169).
Joining Thomas on the Preseason All-Pac-12 is teammate Cate Reese who was named All-Pac-12 last season after averaging 10.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. The former McDonald's All-American ranks 16th on Arizona's all-time scoring list with 1,155 points, third in free throw percentage at 77.7% and is tied for fifth in rebounding average at 6.5 boards per game.
In the Preseason Media Poll, Arizona is picked to finish fifth after a second place finish last season. Defending national champion Stanford is slated to win the league, picking up all 26 first-place votes and 312 points. Following the Cardinal are Oregon (275), UCLA (250), Oregon State (236) and Arizona (215). Washington State (178) and Colorado (142) check in at sixth and seventh respectively, followed by Arizona State (129). With 125 points, USC is picked to finish ninth with Utah (66), Washington (60) and California (40) rounding out the poll.
