Women's Tennis Wraps Fall at Two Tournaments

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women's tennis team will conclude the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule with appearances at the ITA National Fall Championships and Kramer Invitational event.

Second-ranked Abbey Forbes is the top singles seed at the year-end national event, which begins Thursday in San Diego. On the doubles side is the combination of Vanessa Ong and Elise Wagle, which earned automatic entry as the ITA Southwest Region champion. All matches, schedule to run through Sunday, will be played at Barnes Tennis Center.

Forbes, off to a 1-1 start on the campaign following her time at the ITA All-American Championships, meets No. 114 Karine-Marion Job of Kansas State in her opener Thursday at 11:45 a.m. PT. Ong and Wagle, unbeaten in their first five matches as a combination, take on Daria Frayman and Grace Joyce of Princeton at 5 p.m.

• No. 2 Abbey Forbes vs. No. 114 Karine-Marion Job (Kansas State) – 11:45 a.m.
• Vanessa Ong/Elise Wagle vs. Daria Frayman/Grace Joyce (Princeton) – 5 p.m.

The quartet of Ava Catanzarite, Kimmi Hance, Taylor Johnson and Sasha Vagramov is slated to start play at the Jack Kramer Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. Friday.

Catanzarite and Vagramov will play 10 a.m. matches against Melissa LaMette of Cal Poly and Laura Bente, also of Cal Poly, respectively. Fourth-seeded Hance is set to take on Carolina Piferi of Fresno State and No. 8 seed Johnson faces off with Vanessa Nikolovova of Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m.

Freshmen Catanzarite and Hance hold matching 2-1 singles records. Johnson is 3-2. Vagramov has recorded a team-high seven singles victories against just one loss. She reached the singles quarterfinal round at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships.

Singles contests continue through Sunday. The doubles draw has yet to be released.
