SAN DIEGO – Playing in only their second tournament together in doubles, the California women's tennis pair of Jessica Alsola and Erin Richardson prevailed in its ITA National Fall Championships opener on Thursday, defeating Florida's Carly Briggs and Marlee Zein, 0-6, 6-4, 10-7, at the Barnes Tennis Center.
Down 6-0, 3-0 in their opening round of 32, the Golden Bears went on a run, winning six of the next seven games and converting three break points – including on set point – to take the second set, 6-4. The Bears continued their strong play in the match tiebreak, with Richardson holding serve on match point to complete the victory over the Gators.
