Four Ducks Advance to Gonzaga Invite Quarterfinals
SPOKANE, Wash. – All four Oregon players are on to the quarterfinals of their singles draw while Uxia Martinez Moral and Misaki Kobayashi advanced to the semifinals of their doubles draw on day one at the Gonzaga Invitational.
How it Happened: Martinez Moral and Kobayashi started off the day by making quick work of a pair from Idaho with a 6-2 win to move on to the quarterfinals. The Duck duo then topped the pair of JJ Chen and Jazmin Lerman from Montana State, 6-4, to earn a spot in the semifinals of the Blue draw. Mia Ljubas and Allison Mulville won their first round match, 6-2, before falling 6-4 in their quarterfinal matchup with a pair from Washington.
Kobayashi put up the first singles win of the day, picking up a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(2) win over Lauren Dunlap of Montana to move to the quarterfinals of the Purple draw. Mulville advanced by dominating her second set after a close first-set win in a 7-5, 6-0 opening-round victory, while Martinez Moral won 6-2, 7-5 to make it three Ducks in the quarterfinals of their respective singles draw. Ljubas earned a first-round bye in the Green bracket and will play Saturday at 10 a.m.
