USC Swim and Dive's Sancov, Sheridan and Wang Win Twice Each as Trojans Defeat Arizona on the Road

Trojans Calypso Sheridan, Alexei Sancov and Sean Wang each posted a pair of wins during USC swimming and diving's victory over the Wildcats on Friday (Nov. 5) in Tucson, Ariz.

The men won 198-102, while the Women of Troy won the dual 191-109. Both squads advance to 2-0 on the season after defeating Arizona.

USC opened the meet by sweeping the 400y medley relay as redshirt senior Calypso Sheridan, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Laticia Transom took the first event in 3:37.25. The men followed it up with a win as Evangelos Makrygiannis, Trent Pellini, Nikola Miljenic and Sancov won in 3:12.87.

Senior Sancov led a Trojan sweep in the 200y free as he finished first in 1:38.20. Max Saunders (1:38.91), Victor Johansson (1:39.12) and Dominic Margarino (1:39.22) finished 2-3-4 for Troy.

Sheridan led a 1-2-3 USC finish in the 100y back as she took the event in 54.18. Junior Aela Janvier was second in 55.67 while Jade Hannah touched third in 55.89.

For the second week in a row, freshman Marlene Kahler claimed the 1000y free, this time taking it in 10:08.86. On the men's side, Trojan newcomer Daniel Matheson was second in 9:23.77.

Sophomore Dobler won the 100y breast for the Women of Troy, claiming the event in 1:00.84. Purdue transfer Trent Pellini won the event for the men, touching in 54.44.

For the third meet in a row, Greek Olympian Makrygiannis was dominant in the 100y back, this time winning the event in 48.64. Fellow 2020 Olympian Miljenic was second in 48.67.

Trojan sprinters performed well as senior Marta Ciesla (23.18) and freshman Artem Selin (20.01) posted wins in the 50y free. In the 100y free, it was Transom who secured a win for the women in 49.62 and Miljenic in 45.42 for the men.

Other wins for the Women of Troy included Janvier's 200y back (1:59.39), Odgers' 200y breast (2:10.77), Kahler's 500y free (4:54.99), Sheridan's 100y fly (54.12) and Hallie Kinsey's 400y IM (4:31.06).

USC's Ben Dillard (200y breast, 1:57.71), Sancov (100y fly, 47.83) and Harry Homans (400y IM, 3:56.70) claimed an additional three wins to help the Trojans in their victory over the Wildcats.

Closing the meet, USC swept both the women's and men's 200y free relays as the quartet of Transom, Ciesla, Sheridan and Dobler won in 1:31.87. The men's relay of Selin, Miljenic, Billy Cruz Zuniga and Saunders wrapped things up in 1:19.84 for Troy.

In the diving well, freshman Sean Wang swept the men's diving events, winning on both 1-meter (308.10) and 3-meter (371.60) for USC. George Korovin was second on 3-meter with 346.70.

On the women's side, junior Nike Agunbiade was second on both 1-meter (292.10) and 3-meter (321.00). Freshman Madison Huitt was third on 3-meter with 304.80.

Tomorrow, the Trojans will travel to Tempe to take on the top-25 ranked Sun Devils at 12:00 PM at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Live results will be available on Meet Mobile with the meet being streamed online at Pac-12.com/live/arizona-state-university.
