USC Swim and Dive Completes Road Sweep at Arizona State

The USC men's and women's swimming and diving teams both emerged victorious after defeating Pac-12 rival Arizona State to wrap up the weekend on the road for the Trojans on Saturday (Nov. 6) in Tempe, Ariz.

Both squads improved to 3-0 with their wins over the Sun Devils. The women's squad moved to 3-0 in conference action while the men improve to 2-0 on the season in conference matchups (3-0 overall).

Troy won the meet 155.5-138.5 while the women made a statement with their 208-90 win over the Sun Devils.

USC opened the meet with a pair of wins as Trojans Calypso Sheridan, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Marta Ciesla combined for a 1:39.15 to claim the 200y medley relay and secure some early points for The Women of Troy. On the men's side, USC finished first in 1:26.78 as Vaggelis Makrygiannis, Trent Pellini, Nikola Miljenic and Artem Selin took the race for Troy.

The two-time Pac-12 individual champion Transom secured wins in the 200y free (1:47.67), 50y free (23.04) and 100y free (49.10) for the Women of Troy, contributing 27 points.

Redshirt-senior Sheridan had another day of impressive swims as the Northwestern transfer won the 200y IM (2:00.08) and was second in the 200y fly (1:58.96) and 200y breast (2:12.97). Trojan Isabelle Odgers just out-touched Sheridan in the 200y breast, posting a 2:11.00 for the win. She was second to Sheridan in the 200y IM (2:00.31).

Johansson claimed both the 1000y free (9:18.41) and 500y free (4:28.97) for Troy, snagging 18 individual points to lead the Trojans. Freshman Daniel Matheson was third in the 1000y in 9:26.41 and fourth in the 500y free (4:32.98).

Sophomore Ben Dillard, who won the 200y breast in 1:57.54 was second in the 200y IM (1:48.13) and 100y breast (54.65). Freshman Chris O'Grady was second to Dillard in the 200y breat (1:59.50) and finished third in the 100y breast (55.24). Trojan Trent Pellini led a sweep in the 100y breast (53.43) as Dillard and O'Grady finished shortly behind.

Other wins for the Women of Troy came from Delgado's 100y fly (54.11), Jade Hannah's 100y (53.98) and 200y back (1:58.62) and Kahler's 500y free (4:54.18).

Senior Nikola Miljenic captured the 50y free for Troy, blasting a 19.90. Freshman Artem Selin was second in 19.98.

USC wrapped up the meet with a win in the women's 400y free relay as Transom, Delgado, Ciesla and Dobler returned to claim the final event in 3:22.05 for the Women of Troy. The men touched second in their heat as Selin, Miljenic, Makrygiannis and Sancov posted a 2:54.39 to close out the day.

Diving competed in Tucson for the second consecutive day as Trojan Nike Agunbiade finished second on platform with 249.10. Freshman Grace Lee was third (234.80), Maddie Huitt fourth (227.70) and Savannah Stocker was sixth with 193.95.

 Junior George Korovin was second on men's platform with 209.65 and Tatsuya Machida was fourth with 231.30.

The Trojan diving team returns to action next weekend as they host the three-day Trojan Diving Invitational starting Friday (Nov. 12).
