BERKELEY – California volleyball fell in straight sets to No. 18 Oregon, 18-25, 17-25, 16-25 on Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.
Lydia Grote had a team-high six kills for the Bears (7-18, 0-14 Pac-12).
Brooke Nuneviller tallied a match best 14 kills for Oregon (18-6, 9-5 Pac-12).
How It Happened:
Oregon got out to a fast start, taking a 12-6 lead to force the first Cal timeout and the Bears couldn't get closer than four the rest of the way, falling into a first-set hole.
The Bears went on a 5-0 run with Tara DeSa at the service line, tying the score at 16 as Oregon used a timeout. Out of the break, the Ducks scored eight of the final nine points with the lone Cal point coming on a Leah Schmidt kill.
Cal raced to a 6-1 lead behind a solo block from Bella Bergmark and kills by Sam Taumoepeau and Grote, forcing the first Duck timeout of the set. Two more Golden Bear points made it 8-1, before Oregon scored the next 11 consecutive points to force the second Cal timeout at 12-8, UO. The Ducks continued the run from there, taking the set, 25-16, and the match.
Up Next: The Bears return to Haas Pavilion for a 7 p.m. first serve against Washington State on Thursday, Nov. 11.
