Richardson Named to 2022 Naismith Trophy Watch List

Nov 8, 2021

ATLANTA – Senior Will Richardson was one of 50 players nationally named the 2022 Naismith Trophy Watch by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Monday.

Richardson shot 40 percent from three-point range last season and finished with nine double-digit scoring outings, including a career-high 22 points at Oregon State. Richardson followed that up with 19 points (7-10 FG), seven assists and six rebounds in the win over Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The senior has dished out a career-high nine assists twice and has 17 games with five or more assists. He is 19 steals away from entering UO's career top 10.

One of four Pac-12 players on the list, the Pac-12 preseason all-conference first team selection is also one of 20 point guards listed on the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year watch list.

Awarded to the player of the year each season, the Naismith trophy was first awarded in 1969 to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The watch list is reduced to 30 names midway through the season, before the committee votes on the winner from four finalists.
