Beaver Alum Bella Bixby Called Up to US Women's National Team
CHICAGO, Ill. - Oregon State women's soccer alumna Bella Bixby (formerly Geist) has been named as one of 22 players to join the U.S. Women's National Team for two matches in Australia to end the 2021 schedule, USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski announced on Tuesday. The team will clash with the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup co-hosts on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 3 p.m. local time (Friday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. PT on FS2) at Stadium Australia in Sydney, and Nov. 30 at 8:05 p.m. local time (1:05 a.m. PT on ESPN) at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.
This marks Bixby's first call up to the full USWNT team for an Oregon State women's soccer alum. She has previously been involved with the U.S. U-23 WNT. Currently, Bixby is the goalkeeper for the Portland Thorns after being selected in the third round of the 2017 NWSL Draft.
While at Oregon State, Bixby clocked 6783:30 minutes between the pipes, starting 58 of 72 games played. Bixby is the OSU record holder and third in the Pac-12 records for career saves with 394. She is also third in the OSU record book for career solo shutouts (18) and seventh for career goals-against average (6,873 MIN., 113 GA, 1.48 AVG.). Bixby is second in the Oregon State records for saves in a single season, with 126 during her freshman year in 2014. As a Beaver, Bixby collected CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team (2017), Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention (2017), Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team (2016), Pac-12 All-Academic First Team (2015), and Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week (Sept. 1, 2015) accolades.
