Men's Golf Moves Up Five Spots on Day Two of the Saint Mary's Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Washington State men's golf team moved up five spots on the team leaderboard and shaved 13 strokes off its team score in the second round of the Saint Mary's Invitational, as the Cougars carded 2-under, 282 Tuesday, Nov. 9. WSU is set to begin the final round of play at Poppy Hill Golf Club in 12th place.

Freshman Peter Jung posted the best round of his young WSU career, as the Honolulu, Hawaii native carded 4-under, 67 in his second go-around the course at Poppy Hills. Jung was consistent throughout the day, as he collected five birdies and shot even on 12 holes. Jung is tied for the lowest par-3 score in the tournament at -4.

The Cougars were able to shave 13 strokes off its tournament score in the second round. Washington State begins the third and final round of the Saint Mary's Invitational in 12th place this Wednesday, Nov. 10. WSU will be looking to continue its climb up the team leaderboard in the third round, as they sit just three strokes from eighth-place Oregon State. The Cougs will open play tomorrow at 10-over, 577.

Jung is one of three WSU golfers sitting in a tie for 43rd, as he is joined by redshirt senior Max Sekulic and sophomore Jaden Cantafio. Each golfer has shot 2-over, 145 through 36 holes of action. Sekulic shot 1-under, 70 on Tuesday, while Cantafio carded 4-over, 75 in the second round. Sekulic caught fire to begin his day, as he collected four birdies on his front nine.

Sophomore Preston Bebich will open the third round in a tie for 61st on the player leaderboard after shooting 2-over, 73 in the second round. Junior Pono Yanagi finished his day at 1-over, 72 and will begin play tomorrow 10 spots behind Bebich on the player leaderboard.

Stanford maintained its lead in the second round of Saint Mary's Invitational, as the Cardinal shot 4-under, 280. Stanford holds a seven-stroke lead over second-place Oregon heading into the tournament's final round on Wednesday. Nevada's Quim Vidal Mora holds a one-stroke leave over Saint Mary's Mitchell Hoey, as Vidal Mora enters the third round at 7-under, 135.

The third round of the Saint Mary's Invitational gets underway this Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Poppy Hills Golf Club. Washington State tees off at 8 a.m. PT. Fans can follow all the action at GolfStats.com
