ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – The UCLA men's tennis team concluded the fall portion of its 2021-22 season at the Jack Kramer Invitational, as each of the four participating Bruins logged results in singles and doubles matches.
Jeffrey Fradkin, Blaine Hovenier, Karl Lee and Max Wild competed at the Jack Kramer Club on Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6. Fradkin and Wild posted the best result of the quartet, teaming to reach the doubles semifinal round.
On the singles side, Hovenier fell to top-seeded Quinn Vandecasteele of Oregon and Wild came up short against USC transfer Colter Smith of Cal Poly. Fradkin and Lee each went the distance before being bested in a tiebreaker by an Arizona counterpart. Fradkin was edged by Jett Middleton 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(4) and Lee lost a close one to Conner Olsen 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(5).
In doubles play, Hovenier and Lee turned in an 8-2 result versus Smith and Joe Leather of Cal Poly before dropping a quarterfinal-round decision to Linus Carlsson Halldin and Corrado Summaria of Pepperdine. Fradkin and Wild bettered Victor Castro and Joe Tyler of San Diego State 8-6 and advanced past Paul Barretto and Ryder Jackson of USC by way of walkover. Fradkin and Wild saw their journey end against Carlos Hassey and Filip Malbasic of Arizona, as the Wildcat duo posted an 8-2 win.
