Olmos Named Pac-12 Wrestler Of The Week

Nov 9, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State redshirt junior Aaron "Mateo" Olmos has been named the Pac-12 Conference Wrestler of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Olmos is this year's first recipient of the weekly award and picked up the honor after going 2-0 as the Beavers split a pair of duals with Campbell and Lehigh Saturday night at Gill Coliseum.

Both of Olmos' victories came against ranked foes. His first was over No. 12 Austin Murphy of Campbell via a 6-4 decision. Olmos, who hails from Imperial Beach, Calif., finished with three points in the final period to take the two-point victory.

He followed that win with a 4-1 decision over 24th-ranked Jake Logan from Lehigh. All four of his points came in the final frame, which included a late takedown to push his lead to three after he was up 2-1.

The honor is the first of Olmos' career and he is the first Beaver to be recognized since Grant Willits on Jan. 29, 2020.

The Beavers return to action Saturday when taking on Penn State in Manheim, Pa. The Beavers and Nittany Lions get underway at 4 p.m. PT.
