Thomas Named to Naismith Trophy Watchlist

ATLANTA – Arizona forward Sam Thomas was named to the Naismith Trophy Watchlist, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Tuesday morning.
 
After helping lead the Wildcats to the first National Championship appearance in program history, Thomas returned to Tucson for a fifth year of eligibility. The Las Vegas, Nev., native is coming off a season in which she earned All-Pac-12, All-Pac-12 Defensive team and CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American honors. She was also named the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year and won the Elite 90 Award at the Final Four.
 
The 6-0 Thomas also finds herself all over the Arizona record book as she ranks third for games played (125), second in games started (125), second in minutes played (4,230), fifth in three-point shooting percentage (.361), eighth in steals (220) and second in blocked shots (169).
 
Along with being named to the Naismith Trophy Watchlist, Thomas picked up Preseason All-Pac-12 honors and was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watchlist as well.
 
In total 50 student-athletes were named to the watchlist. The Pac-12 leads all conferences with 10 nominees.
