Nov 9, 2021

BOULDER -- Last week saw CU football win a thrilling Homecoming battle against Oregon State while the soccer and fall tennis seasons came to a close. Football's Carson Wells, soccer's Shyra James and tennis' Mila Stanojevic were named this week's CU Athletes of the Week presented by Arrow.

Football defeated Oregon State 37-34 in a double overtime thriller Saturday night at Folsom Field. The defense got 11 third down stops including five from linebacker Carson Wells, matching the CU record. One of them was a fourth down stop. The junior had nine tackles in the game in addition to a sack for a loss of six yards and two quarterback hurries.

The soccer team tied Utah 1-1 in their season finale. In the 37th minute, James scored the game-tying goal for her team-leading ninth goal of the season and fourth in as many games. She became the first CU player to score in four consecutive games since Nikki Marshall in 2007.

In tennis, the Buffs had eight singles wins and defeated Notre Dame in an exhibition dual at the Bonita Bay Classic in Bonita Springs Fla. Three of the singles wins came from Stanojevic, who went 3-0 over the weekend in singles play to bring her singles win streak to eight. She also picked up a doubles win as part of the Buffs 4-3 exhibition win. The freshman led the team with 11 singles wins and eight doubles wins (five more than any other athlete combined).

Football will hit the road this weekend and face UCLA with kickoff set for Saturday at 7 p.m. MT. Soccer finished their season with an 8-7-4 overall record  (3-4-4 in the conference). Tennis will open up the spring dual season on January 22, 2022 against Oral Roberts on the road.
