UCLA Women's Volleyball Announces Signing Class

Nov 10, 2021

LOS ANGELES – UCLA women's volleyball head coach Michael Sealy has announced the additions of 6-foot outside hitter Cheridyn Leverette (Hampton, Ga./Eagle's Landing Christian Academy), 6-for-4 outside hitter Grayce Olson (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) and 5-foot-10 setter Mokihana Tufono (Aiea, Hawaii/'Iolani School), who have all signed their National Letters of Intent.

Leverette led Eagle's Landing Christian Academy to the semifinals of the Georgia state championships in 2021, recording 564 kills with a .416 hitting percentage, 72 aces, 25 blocks and 370 digs in 45 matches. Leverette was ranked as the No. 34 PrepVolleyball.com recruit and was named to the AVCA All-America High School Watch List her senior year in 2021. Leverette was also selected as the Region 2-A Player of the Year for the second time of her career – the first coming in freshman season – after her junior campaign in which Leverette racked up 502 kills at a .481 clip with 54 service aces. Leverette also trained with the USA Volleyball U18 team in this past summer. Leverette played for the A5 South Volleyball Club.

"Cheridyn Leverette has been playing up on one of the best club teams in the country," Sealy said. "She has been a primary attacker and passer on that team and carried a huge load for them. She is a well-rounded player who can make a difference on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Her skill set is going to add to our gym right away and I'm really excited to watch her develop over the coming years."

Olson, who is competing in the 2021 CIF State Championships this week, is the all-time kills leader in Foothill High School history. In her senior season, Olson is leading her team with 609 kills at a .360 hitting percentage to go along with 71 aces and 28 blocks. Olson helped her team to two East Bay Area League Championships and a championship round appearance in the North Coast Section of the CIF Championships her freshman season in 2018 and quarterfinal appearances her senior and sophomore seasons in 2021 and 2019. Olson was ranked as the No. 69 recruit by PrepVolleyball.com and trained with Leverette on the USA Volleyball U18 team. Olson was a back-to-back Northern California Volleyball Association champion in 2018 and 2019.

"Grayce Olson has the potential to be a dominant college athlete," Sealy said. "She attacks with great range and conscious shot selection, has a formidable block and shows good overall volleyball awareness.  We know that she has a skill set to help us right away and that she is going to work hard to hone the areas of her game that she wants to improve. We are excited to get the chance to work with her in the coming years."

Tufono has recorded 888 assists and 518 digs over her four seasons at the 'Iolani School. Tufono was named to the Scoring Live All-Hawaii Third Team in 2019 after totaling 614 assists, averaging 9.4 assists per set. Tufono was an Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion with 'Iolani in 2018. Tufono has recorded 489 assists her senior season as well as 125 digs, averaging 2.3 digs per set.

"Mokihana Tufono has the personality and presence that you are looking for in a setter," Sealy said. "She shows great leadership and dedication to her teams and the process of playing great volleyball. We are excited to get her work ethic, humility and pursuit of greatness into our gym. I'm excited about her growth and helping her achieve her goals."
