Sun Devils Head to App State for Mountaineer Open

TEMPE - Coming off the Maroon and Gold Scrimmage on Nov. 5, Sun Devil Wrestling will travel to Boone, N.C. to compete in the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Appalachian State. Coverage will be limited to live results via FloArena and on Twitter @ASUWrestling, no stream or broadcast is available. Competition kicks off Sunday morning at 9 a.m. EST/ 7 a.m. MST.

ASU goes into Sunday's invitational ranked 8th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) and picked to finish third in the NCAA Tournament by InterMat. 
 
ASU has seven All-Americans in Brandon Courtney, Michael McGee, Jacori Teemer, Anthony Valencia, Cohlton Schultz, Kordell Norfleet, and Fresno State transfer Kyle Parco. All except Courtney and Schultz wrestled in ASU's Maroon and Gold intrasquad.
 
Valencia took on the youngerNorfleet, Kendall, in the 165-pound matchup where Valencia won 13-4. McGee and Teemer both won their competitions, Teemer winning 13-1 and McGee winning his match 7-3.
 
Named by InterMat as the preseason Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year, Cael Valencia is one of the Sun Devils' top newcomers. On Friday he defeated Zane Coleman 10-5.
 
After Sunday's competition, the Sun Devils have their home-opener against No. 16 Oklahoma on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. MST in Desert Financial Arena. The competition is ASU's final event in DFA this calendar year ahead of a Jan. 9 date against No. 14 Iowa State. Season and single match tickets are still available.
