TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats overcame Colorado in four sets on Sunday afternoon to win the season series over the Buffs. Arizona's defense shined with 11 blocks and three Wildcats recorded double-doubles.
Set 1 | Arizona - 25, Colorado - 17
The Wildcats won the first set 25-17, hitting .441 as a team. Sofia Maldonado Diaz led the way for Arizona with five kills followed by Jaelyn Hodge with four kills. Emery Herman helped direct the offense with 14 assists. Kamaile Hiapo and Maldonado Diaz each served two aces to help the Cats win the first set.
Set 2 | Arizona - 19, Colorado - 25
Colorado came back in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. Puk Stubbe knocked down three kills and Merle Weidt had a block solo. Arizona spread the offense evenly between Dilara Gedikoglu, Herman, and Hodge who had two kills each, but it wasn't enough to keep the Buffs at bay.
Set 3 | Arizona - 25, Colorado - 18
Arizona bounced back to win the third set 25-18. Stubbe and Weidt each had three kills and Maldonado Diaz and Herman had two kills apiece. Hiapo served two aces early on to extend the Cats' lead to four points that the Buffs couldn't come back from. Zyonna Fellows shined on defense with four block assists and a block solo to keep Colorado from taking the lead in the set.
Set 4 | Arizona - 32, Colorado - 30
The Cats won the final set 32-30, the second time that Arizona and Colorado have played a set into the 30s this season. Maldonado Diaz dominated the attack hitting .312 on seven kills. She added on two aces and two block assists. Stubbe followed with four kills and two blocks and Weidt had three kills and two blocks. Fellows also recorded two blocks to help Arizona overcome Colorado and win the match.
