Washington Earns No. 2 Seed In NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament

Nov 15, 2021

SEATTLE -- After an incredibly successful and record-setting regular season, the Washington men's soccer team earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. As a top-16 seed, the Huskies will have a bye in the first round of action and will open play in the Round of 32 on Sunday, November 21st. They will face the winner of Portland/Seattle U on Sunday at Husky Soccer Stadium. The game time has yet to be finalized.

As a top-4 seed, Washington will also have the opportunity to host every tournament match it plays up until the College Cup in Cary, North Carolina, where the final four teams advance.

UW reached new heights this past fall, setting a program and conference record for best start to a season, as the Huskies won their first 12 matches of the season to start 12-0-0.

Washington finished the regular season 14-1-2 with a 6-1-2 record in the Pac-12.

The Huskies finished three points shy of a Pac-12 title, although they only played nine conference matches, while Pac-12 champion Oregon State played all 10 of its matches. Had Washington been able to play its 10th match and won, it would have secured a share of the Pac-12 title.

Now, the Huskies shift their focus to the NCAA Tournament, where they have their sights set on bigger and better goals.

"We're excited for a great game on Sunday. It's going to be a Pacific Northwest rivalry either way." head coach Jamie Clark said. "We think it's a game that should resonate with the area greatly. Earning the number two overall seed is a nice thing. Our goal is not to be number two, though. Our goal is to win the whole thing and be the number one team in the country."
