Utah Lacrosse Adds 14 Signees To 2022-23 Roster

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah Lacrosse head coach Andrew McMinn has announced his first signing class since taking the helm in August, welcoming 14 new additions to the 2022-23 roster.

The 14 new Utes will join an already young and talented squad that is looking to take the program to new heights under the direction of McMinn and assistants Sean Doyle and Tim McDermott.

The signing class break down includes four newcomers on defense, four at midfield, three at attack, two faceoff specialists and a goalkeeper. From the east coast to the west coast, the new set of Utes will be coming to Utah from all over the country, including Minnesota (2), Georgia (2), Ohio (2), Massachusetts (2), Connecticut (1), Colorado (1), Michigan (1), Florida (1), Texas (1) and Utah (1).

"We are extremely excited to announce these 14 signees as the next members of the Utah Lacrosse family," McMinn said. "The class represents 10 different states and we feel strongly that each newcomer will represent our program at an extremely high level on and off the field."

Nikko DiPonio | Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Culver Military Academy) | Defense
High School:
Four-time letter winner at Culver Military Academy in Chicago … two-time Under Armour Underclass All-American … made the Inside Lacrosse All-Tournament team … helped Culver to a third place finish in the Geico National Championships … All-Star status at the NXT Showcase … also earned NLC All-Star, Main Stage All-Star and Ohio State All-Star honors … received Manney's Men designation from NXT …  played running back for the football team … played lacrosse at Bloomfield Hills before transferring to Culver.

About Nikko: Brother, Dominick, and sister, Natalie, both play hockey with his sister playing for Bowling Green State in Ohio … father wrestled at California University of Pennsylvania … is a unit commander at Culver within the military system, leading a group of 60 men … captain of the skeet and trap club … wants to attend the business school at Utah.  

Brady Grandstaff | Carver, Minn. (Chanhassen HS) | Attack
High School: Entering his fifth season of varsity lacrosse at Chanhassen after playing on varsity as an eighth grader … team captain … all-state, all-section and all-conference selection … earned Rookie of the Year as a freshman … All-Star at the TC Showcase and the 3D Summer Shootout … led his team to a section and conference championship … also played running back for the football team.

About Brady: Has two sisters … wants to get involved in sports medicine or athletic training as a career after lacrosse … injuries early in his lacrosse career helped him become more of a leader off the field … enjoys pottery.

Luke Haley | Lithia, Fla. (Newsome HS) | Midfield
High School:
Three-year letter winner for Newsome HS … 147 goals, 104 assists and 251 points heading into this senior year … US Lacrosse All-American … all-region selection … two-time Offensive MVP … holds the school record for single-season points … scored 73 points (47 goals, 26 assists) as a freshman … also scored 42 points (25 goals, 17 assists) during the 2020 shortened season with his team going 8-0 during that time.
