#7 Sun Devils Shipping Up to Wyoming for Second Tournament

TEMPE - No. 7 Arizona State travels to Laramie, Wyoming, to compete in Wyoming's Cowboy Open Saturday in War Memorial Fieldhouse. ASU will face competition from Wyoming, Utah Valley, Northern Colorado Chadron State, CSU-Pueblo and Western Wyoming, and the tournament will stream via FloWrestling and have live results via FloArena. Tournament play begins at 9 a.m. MST.

The Cowboy Open's format this year features one 16-man bracket at every weight class, moving away from the multiple bracket structure of past tournaments. This year's Cowboy Open will also feature two ranked teams and has the possibility to produce multiple ranked matchups.

The Sun Devils' star-studded lineup traveling up to the Cowboy State includes this week's Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week Michael McGee. The redshirt junior picked up the honor following his 12-3 major decision over Oklahoma's No. 10 Tony Madrigal Friday night in ASU's home opener against the Sooners. It's McGee's first time earning the accolade.
 
ASU has eight undefeated starters in McGee, 133 Courtney, 141 Vasquez, 157 Teemer, 174 Cael Valencia, 149 Parco, 165 Anthony Valencia, and heavyweight Schultz.
 
The Sun Devils are coming off a 22-12 victory over No. 17 Oklahoma in the opening dual of the year. ASU had two major decision wins and registered 21 takedowns to Oklahoma's eight in the first dual of the 2021-22 season. The Sun Devils went 7-for-10 tonight against the Sooners, taking the first 6 matches and beating four top-25 wrestlers.
 
Following the Cowboy Open, ASU will head to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, for the National Duals Dec. 20-21.
