Pregame: 

  • The Colorado Buffaloes (4-7, 3-5 Pac-12) conclude their 132nd season in Salt Lake City, Utah and take on the Pac-12 South Division champion and No. 16 (AP)/19 (USAT/Coaches) Utah Utes (8-3, 7-1 Pac-12). Kickoff is set for 2:05 p.m. MT.
  • The all-time series is tied 32-32-3; Utah leads 18-14-2 in Salt Lake City and has won the last four meetings.
  • The Buffs are coming off an exciting 20-17 win over the Washington Huskies in their last game of the season at Folsom Field. Despite being bested by the Huskies in most statistical categories, the Buffs defense created four turnovers and the offense rallied when it mattered most to give the team a winning edge. Utah took care of business against No.3 Oregon with a commanding 38-7 victory. 
  • TE Brady Russell leads the team in receptions with 23 and is second in yards with 295. WR Brenden Rice is second in catches with 11 and first in yards with 299. This is the 13th time in CU history that a tight end has led the team in catches and just the second time in the last 30 seasons. 
  • The 2021 Buffs have scored in 30-of-32 (93.8%) of possessions into the red zone, including 20 touchdowns. This is the seventh best in the nation. The Buffs have a chance to break the current school record of 90.6% set in 1985 and 1994.
  • Colorado's defense has also been strong against opponents inside the red zone as opponents have scored in 29-of-39 (74.4%) red zone penetrations beyond the 20 which is 18th in hte nation.

Weather: Weather in Salt Lake city is 45 degrees and partly cloudy at kickoff.
Captains: CU captains for this game are junior CB Mekhi Blackmon, senior LB Nate Landman, freshman QB Brendon Lewis, and junior TE Brady Russell. 
Uniforms: Colorado will be wearing its white jerseys, gold helmets and black pants.
Coin Toss: Utah won the toss and has elected to receive. The Buffs will kickoff and defend the south goal.

4Q: TURNOVER ON DOWNS: Colorado has promising drive going that is stopped by Utah as Colorado fails to convert a 4th-and-8 attempt on incomplete pass by Lewis. 1st and 10 Utes at their own 23.
END OF 3RD QUARTER: Colorado got the half started with a big kickoff return across the field for a touchdown by Reed to continue its stellar special teams play. But the Utes quickly turned the momentum with two touchdown scores. However, the Buffs have a promising offensive drive going with 2nd-and-8 at the Utah 42, giving them a chance to get back into the game and swing the momentum in their favor.

3Q: UTAH PUNT: Colorado gets a big defensive stop with help from a penalty to force Utah to punt for the first time in the game. Michael Williams Punt for 50 yards to Colorado 26. Penry returns it for 14 yards. 1st and 10 Buffs at their own 40.

3Q: UTAH TOUCHDOWN: Forward toss out in the flat by Rising complete for 13 yards to Covey who runs it into the end zone. Extra point by Redding GOOD. Utes now lead 28-13 with 6:45 left in the 3rd quarter.
3Q: COLORADO PUNT: Watts punt goes 48 yards to the Utah 44 and is returned by Covey for six yards. 1st and 10 Utes at the 50.
3Q: UTAH KICKOFF: Noyes kickoff goes 65 yards, returned by Penry for 16 yards. 1st and 10 Buffs at their own 16.
3Q: UTAH TOUCHDOWN: Utah responds with a quick drive capped off by 12-yard Tavion Thomas run to the end zone. PAT by Redding GOOD. Utes lead 21-13 with 12:08 left in the 3rd quarter.
3Q: COLORADO KICKOFF: Becker kickoff goes 62 yards to Utah 3. Returned 29-yards by Covey. 1st and 10 Utes at their own 32.
3Q: COLORADO TOUCHDOWN: Nikko Reed returns Noyes 65-yard kickoff breaking a couple of tackles for 100 yards for a touchdown to start the second half. PAT by Becker GOOD. First kickoff return for a touchdown of the season for the Buffs to make the score 14-13 Utes.
Start of 2nd half

HALFTIME: Utah leads Colorado 14-6 but the Buffs get the ball to start the second half as they will look to get some offense going and continue to get big defensive stops to limit the damage by a tough Utah offense. Alex Fontenot leads the Buffs in rushing on seven carries for 23 yards. Dimitri Stanley has two receptions for 33 yards. Lewis is 5-for 12 with 49 yards passing and 8-yards on the ground. Isaiah Lewis leads the team with seven tackles while Devin Grant, Jalen Sami and Terrance Lang each have a tackle for loss and Mark Perry has an interception in the game.

COLORADO FIELD GOAL ATTEMPT: GOOD. Becker makes career-long 56-yard field goal with plenty of room to spare to make it a one score game. Utah now leads at the half 14-6.
2Q: TURNOVER ON DOWNS: Carson Wells makes a big tackle on a Rising option run to stop the Utes from converting a first down as they go for it on 4th-and-2 to give the Buffs a much needed stop and the Buffs 1st and 10 at their own 23.
2Q: COLORADO PUNT: Watts punt goes 45 yards to the Utah 34, returned by Covey for five yards. 1st and 10 Utes at their own 39.
2Q: UTAH KICKOFF: Jordan Noyes kickoff goes 53 yards to the CU 12. Chase Penry returns it for 8-yards. 1st and 10 Buffs at their own 20.

END OF 1ST QUARTER: Colorado has shocked Utah getting out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to an early interception and red zone stop resulting in a blocked field goal. Colorado will look to continue this stellar defensive performance and get their offense going as Utah has the ball at their own 36.

Buffs got a big third down stop on a run thanks to a tackle by Na'im Rodman and a couple of big tackles for losses on the drive by Devin Grant and Lang. Colorado still leads 3-0. 1st and 10 Buffs at the Utah 27.
