TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona defeated Arizona State in straight sets on Saturday to complete the season sweep of the Sun Devils. Three Wildcats recorded double-digit kills and two had double-doubles.
Set 1 | Arizona – 25, Arizona State - 11
The Cats came out of the gate strong, hitting .351 while holding Arizona State to a .000 hitting percentage. Puk Stubbe led the attack in the first set, recording six kills on .667 hitting and adding two blocks. Jaelyn Hodge tallied four kills and Sofia Maldonado Diaz had three kills. Zyonna Fellows defended the net with three block assists to help hold the Sun Devils to just six kills. Kamaile Hiapo went on a 7-0 serving run at the end of the set to push the Cats to win the first set.
Set 2 | Arizona - 25, Arizona State - 16
Arizona's defense dominated the second set with three blocks and holding Arizona State to a hitting percentage of .000. Hodge and Maldonado Diaz each tallied a block solo and Fellows and Stubbe combined for a block assist. Emery Herman recorded four digs, and Hiapo and Maldonado Diaz had three digs to help the defense. Stubbe led Arizona's offense again with four kills, followed by Hodge and Maldonado Diaz with three kills each.
Set 3 | Arizona - 26, Arizona State - 24
The Wildcats won the final set 26-24 to complete the sweep of the Sun Devils. Maldonado Diaz found her rhythm in the third set with five kills and Hodge, Maldonado Diaz, and Merle Weidt all had three kills. Hiapo served three aces in a row early in the set to extend Arizona's lead. Maldonado Diaz and Malina Kalei Ua both tallied six digs to help the Cats win the final set. Herman's assist to Maldonado Diaz on the final kill marked Herman's 1,000th assist this season.
