Klingler And Reynolds Invited To USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Trials
OKLAHOMA CITY –– USA Softball announced today the list of 45 athletes invited to participate at the 2022 USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Trials to be held January 1-6 at Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Fla. Those athletes who accepted the invitation to try out will vie for a spot on the 18-player roster for the 2022 USA Softball WNT that will compete at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, which will signify as the 2022 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup.
Husky seniors Baylee Klingler and Sami Reynolds were the two current Huskies invited to the selection trials along with former Washington greats Ali Aguilar and Sis Bates.
Recently named Head Coach for the 2022 USA Softball Women's National Team, Heather Tarr will lead the Red, White and Blue after serving as an assistant coach for Team USA's silver medal finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Klingler was named a Second Team All-American last season, hitting .416 with 16 home runs and 53 RBI. Klingler led the Pac-12 in runs scored and finished fourth in RBI, one of only two Pac-12 players to score 50 runs and drive in 50. Her 17 doubles and 33 extra-base hits led the conference. Klingler was one of three Pac-12 players with a batting average over .400 and one of two with an on-base percentage over .500.
Reynolds earned All-Pac-12 Second Team for the Huskies as a junior. Reynolds has earned All-Pac-12 in each of her two seasons the award has been given, earning Third Team after her freshman season in 2019. Reynolds twice earned Pac-12 Player of the Week in the spring, giving her three such honors in her career, the most in Husky history. She had 21 extra-base hits, including a career-high 12 home runs.
The all-time Husky hits leader, Bates is currently a student assistant coach for the softball team. Last season, Bates became the second player in the history of the conference to earn three Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year awards. Bates also earned her third All-American honor in her final year as a Husky, hitting .389. Bates has previously competed with the US National Team in 2018.
A two-time All-American at Washington, Aguilar most recently was a member of the US silver medal winning squad at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The shortstop was also named to the All-Pac-12 team three times in her Husky career. In 2016, Aguilar made the US National Team and over the past five years, she's helped the US win two golds at the World Championships and two more at the Pan American Games.
