Grattan, Agude Earn Pac-12 Honors
SAN FRANCISCO – A pair of Bruins from the trenches, Mitchell Agude and Paul Grattan Jr., were honored by the Pac-12 Conference on Monday in the weekly announcement of the Pac-12 Performance Awards, presented by Nextiva. Agude was selected the Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week. Grattan Jr. was tabbed as the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Agude was credited with five tackles, a quarterback hurry and a quarterback sack (minus 5 yards) during UCLA's 42-14 win over Cal on Saturday. Both his quarterback hurry and sack came in the second half of action as the Bruin defense pitched a shutout. The sack was on a fourth down attempt by Cal and helped turn the ball over to the Bruins. The Bruin defense held the Golden Bears under 200 yards of total offense in the game until their final drive of the contest. Cal finished with a Bruin opponent season-low of 217 yards of total offense on the night (92 rush - 125 pass). It marked the fifth time this season that the Bruin defense had limited an opponent rushing attack to less than 100 yards. It was the third time in the last four games that the Bruin secondary had limited opponent passing attacks to less than 200 yards in a contest.
Grattan Jr. helped the UCLA rushing attack generate 282 yards on the ground and also did not allow a quarterback sack during the win over Cal. The 282 rushing yards was the second-highest total of the season by the Bruins who averaged 6.4 yards per rush attempt during the game. Both running back Zach Charbonnet (106 yards) and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (102) racked up over 100 rushing yards in the contest. It marked the eighth time this season that the UCLA O-line had paved the way for a 200-yard Bruin rushing performance in a game, all wins.
Thompson-Robinson was voted Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season for his performance in UCLA's victory over USC. In addition, running back Charbonnet was recognized on Sept. 7 as the league's Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the win over LSU. Alec Anderson (Offensive Line – Sept. 7), Kyle Philips (Special Teams – Sept. 27, Nov. 15) and Nicholas Barr-Mira (Special Teams – Oct. 11) have also been honored by the Pac-12 Conference this year.
