Three Cougars Earn Pac-12 Weekly Honors after Apple Cup win

Nov 29, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO (Nov. 29, 2021) - Washington State defensive back Armani Marsh, kicker Dean Janikowski and quarterback Jayden de Laura each earned Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week awards following the Apple Cup win over Washington, the conference office announced Monday.

Marsh was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week after making five tackles and two interceptions including WSU's first Apple Cup pick-6 since Eric Frampton in 2006. Marsh was the first Cougar with two interceptions in an Apple Cup since Lamont Thompson had three interceptions in 1997.

Janikowski was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week after matching a WSU Apple Cup record with four made field goals in the win over Washington. Janikowski tallied 16 points after hitting all PAT and connected on 4-of-5 field attempts, hitting from 31, 25, a career-long 41 and 39 to match Drew Dunning's Apple Cup record he did twice (2002, 2003).

De Laura was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Week after competing 27-of-32 passes for 245 yards and also rushed for 31 yards in the Apple Cup win over Washington. De Laura set a WSU Apple Cup record with an 84.3 completion percentage, the fourth-best completion percentage in WSU single-game history.

WSU has produced program-record ten Pac-12 weekly accolades in 2021; Travell Harris (ST, Portland State), Brennan Jackson (DL, at Cal), George Hicks III (DEF, Oregon State), Liam Ryan (OL, Oregon State), Brennan Jackson, DL, Stanford) and Ron Stone Jr. (DL, at Arizona State), Jahad Woods (DEF, Arizona).
