Figueroa to Represent USA at Jr. Pan American Games
TEMPE - Stunnaman Rich is Columbia bound! Freshman Richard Figueroa (125 lb/57 kg) and 14 other Americans will travel to Cali, Colombia with USA Wrestling this week to compete in the Junior Pan American Games. Wrestling runs Dec. 1-4, with Figueroa set to open qualifying Friday morning at 8 a.m. MST/10 a.m. local against 2019 Jr. Pan Ams silver medalist Elkin Espana Santa (Colombia) before taking on finals Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. MST/ 4:30 p.m. local. Cali, Colombia is two hours ahead of Arizona.

Figueroa is a 2018 Cadet World silver medalist and joined the Junior World Team at 57 kg on May 2 after defeating Ryan Miller (Penn RTC) in back-to-back bouts at the UWW Junior Nationals. He came to ASU as the No. 1 pound-for-pound recruit in America but hasn't seen action in a Sun Devil singlet yet. He last competed at the 2021 UWW Junior World Championships in Ufa, Russia where he was eliminated in the first round by Ali Gholi Zadegan Koloukhi of (Iran).

The event will feature the 18 Olympic weight classes across the three Olympic styles. In order to qualify a weight, countries had to produce a top-eight finish in the category at the Junior Pan American Championships earlier this summer. The United States qualified all six in men's freestyle and Greco-Roman, while securing five spots in women's freestyle. However, due to late roster changes, the U.S. will only send three athletes in women's freestyle.
