Cal Posts Pair of NCAA Top-5 Relay Times
MINNEAPOLIS – Fifth-ranked Cal kicked off the Minnesota Invitational Wednesday with a pair of NCAA A qualifying relay swims, with the Golden Bears notching top-5 national times in both events.
In the first event of the meet, Cal took three of the top seven spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome of Isabelle Stadden, Ema Rajic, Isabel Ivey and Elise Garcia led the way with their third-place time of 1:34.93. Not only was the effort an NCAA A cut, but it was the sixth fastest in school history and fifth fastest in the country so far this season.
In addition, Reed Broaders, Maddie Ward, Mia Kragh and McKenna Stone placed sixth in 1:37.99, with Ayla Spitz, Alicia Henry, Emily Gantriis and Ella Mazurek in seventh in 1:38.29.
In the second and final event of Day 1, Spitz, Robin Neumann, Ivey and Alicia Wilson combined to take second in the 800 free relay in 6:59.71, which stands as the third fastest in the country this year. The Bears' B relay of Lea Polonsky, Lizzy Cook, Rachel Klinker and Emma Davidson took fifth overall in 7:04.06.
The Minnesota Invitational continues through Saturday, with prelims starting at 8 a.m. PT and finals at 4 p.m. PT.
