LOS ANGELES – Head coach John Savage and the UCLA baseball program officially announced its 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday, a group of 13 talented and decorated student-athletes from the west coast.
The group features seven players ranked inside the national top-500, including the top-ranked player from Washington in right-handed pitcher Ian Ritchie Jr. (Bainbridge Island HS) and a trio of top-10-ranked outfielders from California in Jarrod Hocking (Servite HS), Toussaint Bythewood (Harvard-Westlake), and Payton Brennan (Rocklin HS).
By position, the new class features five right-handed pitchers, two left-handed pitchers, four outfielders, and two infielders.
"Our entire staff, led by Bryant Ward, has done a great job putting this class together," said Savage. "With the help of Niko Gallego and David Berg, we feel this class will have an impact as freshmen next year as they enter into UCLA."

Michael Barnett
Right-Handed Pitcher – Lafayette, Calif. (College Park HS) – 6-4/175
Awards/Stats: Had a 1.91 ERA during his junior year in high school … Participated in the 2021 Area Code Games, playing for the A's … Played with Canes Baseball … Also played travel ball with Zoots Baseball.
Savage Says: "Michael is just beginning his progression into a high-end prospect. He displayed a repeatable delivery, and is only going to get better. He's very competitive."
Payton Brennan
Outfielder – Rocklin, Calif. (Rocklin HS) – 6-3/198

Toussaint Bythewood

Cody Delvecchio
Right-Handed Pitcher – San Marcos, Calif. (Mission Hills HS) – 6-0/170
Awards/Stats: In the state of California, ranked the No. 24 RHP and No. 64 prospect overall … Two-time Preseason Underclass All-American … Played in the 2021 Padres High School All-Star Game at Petco Park … Was 10-1 with a 1.86 ERA in his junior season at Mission Hills High School, striking out 119 batters in 75 1/3 innings … Has a career 2.22 ERA over three varsity high school seasons … Named to the California All-State Team in 2021 by Cal-Hi Sports.

Chris Grothues
Left-Handed Pitcher – Anaheim, Calif. (Servite HS) – 6-2/180

Jarrod Hocking
Outfielder – Anaheim, Calif. (Servite HS) – 5-10/180

Chris Paciolla
Infielder – Temecula, Calif. (Temecula Valley HS) – 6-2/165
