Three Huskies Win Gold At The Junior Pan American Games

BARRANQUILLA, Colombia – Husky freshmen Kinsey Fiedler, Olivia Johnson and Rylee Holtorf claimed gold medals as part of the USA Softball U-18 Women's National Team's victory at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games. The U.S. recorded a 10-0 run-rule victory over Mexico on Thursday in the gold medal game, finishing the tournament with an undefeated 6-0 record.

The three Huskies were key elements of the high-powered U.S. offensive attack, combining for 22 runs scored and 16 RBI over the six-game tournament. 
 

Johnson, the Pearland, Texas native, led the way as she was 8-15 (.533) over the six-game stretch, with two doubles, while driving in eight runs and scoring eight runs. Johnson also drew three walks, boasting an impressive .600 on-base percentage.

Hitting .417 for the tournament, Fiedler powered two home runs, drove in five and scored nine runs in the games. She was an on-base machine, drawing five walks, for an OBP of .611 over the course of the tournament.

Holtorf delivered as well for the U.S., going 4-15 with a pair of doubles, driving in three runs and scoring five runs.

The United States dominated the 2021 Junior Pan American Games, shutting out all six of their opponents while scoring a combined total of 71 runs. The U.S. offense proved superior with a team batting average of .460 and a total of 63 hits – including 13 home runs.

In addition to claiming the gold medal at America's first-ever youth continental multi-sport event, the victory earned Team USA a berth to the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games. The USA Softball U-18 Women's National Team will continue their travels as they head to Lima, Peru for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Women's World Cup. Scheduled for Dec. 6-12, the U.S. will look to claim a fourth-consecutive WBSC Junior Women's World Championship title, having won the previous three World Championships in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
