KAPALUA, MAUI – Utah cross country and track & field alumnae Grayson Murphy claimed the Xterra World Trail Running Championship once again, winning the 21k trail run held at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Resort Hotel in Maui.

The Bozeman, Mont., native was the first to cross the finish line among the 79 women running with a time of 1:31.18 for Team USA and was sixth overall among 203 runners in the 21k trail run. The next closest female from Murphy finished in 11th overall at 1:38.35. This is the second win for Murphy in the State of Hawaii after winning the same race on Nov. 24, 2019, at Kualoa Ranch in Kaaawa, Hawaii.

The victory came on the heels of Murphy recently being named the 2021 USATF Mountain Ultra Trail (MUT) Runner of the Year (Open Female). She defended her USATF Mountain Running Championship title earlier this year at the Gnar Gnar race in Oregon. In addition, Murphy also competed in several WMRA World Cup Races and captured victories in Spain's Canfranc-Canfranc race while setting a new course record as well as winning Italy's historic Trofeo Nasego race.
