ASU Track and Field Announces 2021-22 Schedule

Dec 6, 2021

TEMPE - Head coach Dion Miller today announced Sun Devil Track and Field's 2021-22 schedule, and it's an exciting one. ASU gets going Jan. 14 at Northern Arizona and doesn't skip a beat from there. Seven collegiate meets are on the docket ahead of the NCAA Indoor Championships. The outdoor season features four meets at Sun Angel Stadium, with the Sun Devils hosting back-to-back weekends March 18-19 and March 25-26.

2021-22 Sun Devil Track and Field Schedule

ASU is coming off one of its best seasons in recent memory. Both the men's and women's teams finished ninth overall at the NCAA Championships, three national titles were earned, four medals were collected, nine athletes earned All-American honors, and six Sun Devils  placed in the top-5. 2021 marked the first time the men have been top-10 since 2010 (4th, 79 points) and the third time in the last four years that the women have been in the top-10. Turner Washington and Jorinde van Klinken both earned USTFCCCA West Region Field Athlete of the Year awards, and van Klinken also won Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Year alongside her Pac-12 discus title. Washington went on to earn Academic All-American XCTF Team Member of the Year, and van Klinken went on to represent the Netherlands at Tokyo 2020. As a program, ASU notched 12 new top-10 entries into the program all-time lists across the 2020-21 indoor and outdoor seasons, earned 13 All-Americans, and collected 13 Pac-12 Championships medals.

Turner Time
Turner Washington cemented himself as arguably the best thrower in the country last season. He's one of just three men in NCAA history to ever claim the indoor shot, outdoor shot, and discus titles all in the same year, broke the NCAA indoor shot put record, claimed two ASU program records, ended the year leading the NCAA in both the shot, was named the USTFCCCA  Outdoor West Region Male Field Athlete of the Year,  Indoor Male Field Athlete of the Year, Men's Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year, and is a finalist for The Bowerman.

Young Blood
ASU added some top-level talent this year in all areas. National sprinting phenom Justin Robinson, who deferred university for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now on campus and has been a workhouse throughout fall training. Robinson earned a pair of of gold medals at the U20 Pan American Championships and set the U18 400m world record in 2019 when he ran 44.84. He comes to Tempe alongside New Mexico-native Adriana Tatum who holds the No. 1 100m (11.60) and 200m (24.47) times in her home state. #ThrowsU brought on national No. 1 discus thrower Faith Bender - she ranks 13th nationally in the shot too.

In the jumps, high jumper Jeremy Cody is now a Sun Devil after transferring from Colorado where he finished fifth (2.11m/6-11) at the 2020 MPSF Indoor Championships. Texas-native Savannah Redmond also joined the jumping core. She ranks seventh in Texas for the long jump (18-8.5) and 18th in the triple jump (35-8.75). Rounding out the newcomers are pole vaulters Paris Bond and Kristen Masucci. Masucci is a transfer from Texas A&M who sits ninth all-time in the Aggies' records (3.76m/12-4), while Bond ranks second in Kansas (13-1) and 35th nationally.
