Cooper called in to U20 Camp

PULLMAN, Wash. - After completing a historic inaugural campaign at Washington State, freshman Nadia Cooper will have a chance to show off her talents among the best the US has to offer as the young keeper was called in to training camp with the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team. Cooper was one of 24 players to be called into the camp which runs Dec. 7-14 at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.. The U20 team is gearing up for the Concacaf U-20 Championships which will take place early in 2022 in teh Dominican Republic.

Cooper call into the U20 camp continues her ascent through the youth ranks of the U.S. system. She had previous been called up to the U17 National Team for multiple tournaments including in early 2020 for prep for the Concacaf U17 Championships that were later canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the lead up to the tournament, Cooper earned a start against England on Feb. 20, 2020 picking up a shutout in her last national team game before the pandemic.

This season as a freshman in the Crimson and Gray, Cooper showed off her elite talents becoming the first Coug in program history to not only be named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year but also the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year. Additionally, Cooper was named both first team all-conference and all-region for her play between the posts. Her all-region selection marked the first time in program history a freshman had earned first team honors. On the year Cooper was one of the best in the nation in goal for the Cougs as she finished the year 10-1-3 between while tallying seven solo shutouts despite not taking over the starting job until Sept. 12. She would go on to set the Cougs' all-time record for consecutive shutout minutes with 523:56 minutes to begin her career, snapping all-time great Gurveen Clair's record set in 2013. In addition, Cooper became the first true freshman in program history to record shutouts in her first two career starts. In 15 appearances, Cooper allowed just 10 goals, finishing the season with a 0.617 goals against average, the third best average in program history for a Coug.
