Kneepkens Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

Dec 6, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO – University of Utah Women's Basketball freshman Gianna Kneepkens has been named the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for her performance in the Utes game against then-No. 21 BYU.

On Saturday night, the Duluth, Minn. native, had a career day against the Cougars. Kneepkens set career-highs in points (29), minutes played (26), field goals made (9), and free throws made (7).

Kneepkens scored 13 of her 29 points in the final quarter of play that saw Utah score 29 points. In the contest, she dropped four three-pointers, which tied a career-high.

The 29 points scored is a season-high by a Ute, and it is the first time in her career that Kneepkens dropped 20 or more points in a single game. The 29 points was the first time that Kneepkens led the team in scoring in a single game. This is the first Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award this season and Utah's 15th all-time and first since Brynna Maxwell won on Feb. 10, 2020.
