Gylten Named Candidate For Senior CLASS Award
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior guard Dru Gylten has been named one of 30 candidates for the 2020-21 Senior Class Award announced Tuesday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition. This spring, the Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Women's Final Four®.
Gylten, a four-year member of the Utes team, has made a lasting impact on and off the court. Her work in the classroom and the community has been an invaluable experience for the senior.
On the court, Gylten has been on the Nancy Liebermann Watch List for the past three seasons. She has dished out 448 assists in her career for the Utes, the sixth most all-time. She is only four assists away from moving into the top five. She has started all 83 games she has appeared in during her time as a Ute, along with being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team following the 2018-19 season.
Through eight games this season, Gylten is averaging 7.1 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game. This season, she has multiple games with eight or more assists, including nine versus Gonzaga on Nov. 26. Against BYU on Dec. 4, Gylten dished out a team-high eight assists.
Off the court, Gylten has volunteered her time with different community service projects, including working with: the American Red Cross, Bennion Center Projects, local Salt Lake City School District events, and more.
She was named the Female Most Inspirational Athlete following the 2020 season. All student-athletes voted on this award as she played almost an entire season with a torn labrum in her hip. She was also named the 2021 Bennion Athletes in Service Award Winner.
She is on track to graduate in the spring with a major in Kinesiology and two minors, Business and Pediatric Clinical Research. She has been named to Utah's Dean List, the Utah AD Honor Roll, and the Pac 12 All-Academic Second Team in 2019.
Gylten and the Utes return to action on Friday, December 10, when they play host to Cal State Fullerton at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MT. The game will be aired on UtahUtes.com and on ESPN700.
