Chidekh Shoots Up To No. 3 In National Singles Poll
SEATTLE -- Clement Chidekh rocketed up the ITA National Singles Rankings today, going from his preseason No. 72 up to No. 3 in the nation. The ranking comes as no surprise after Chidekh put together one of the best fall seasons in school history, becoming the first Husky to make the semifinals of the ITA All-America Championships and the ITA National Fall Championships in the same year.
An All-Pac-12 First Teamer in his first year in 2021, Chidekh put together an 11-3 fall season, with his only three losses coming to the champion of the All-American Championships, No. 2-ranked Ben Shelton, and one to the two finalists at the National Fall Championships: No. 1-ranked August Holmgren and No. 7 Arthur Fery. He had wins over players now ranked No. 4, No. 6, No. 14, No. 15, No. 27, and No. 56.
Chidekh becomes the third Husky ever ranked in the top-3 nationally. Alex Vlaski reached the No. 2 spot in 2004, and Robert Kendrick was ranked No. 3 back in 1999.
Washington will start its 2022 dual match season on Jan. 12 against Seattle U. at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Many of the best teams in the nation will be coming to Seattle for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships from Feb. 18-21.
