Iñigo Villaldea Named to All-Region Team

SAN DIEGO – Iñigo Villaldea of the Aztec men's soccer team was named to the United Soccer Coaches Far West Region Second Team.

A sophomore midfielder from (Gijón, Spain), Villaldea stabilized the Aztecs' defensive midfield and tied for the team-lead with four assists. He was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team last month and was an honorable mention selection as a freshman.

"Iñigo has blossomed into one of the best box-to-box midfielders on the west coast so it's exciting to see him recognized by the West region committee," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said. "We look forward to his continued development and the contributions he brings to our program on a daily basis."

Villaldea is the first Aztec to earn All-Region Second Team honors (or better) since 2016 when the Aztecs placed four players on the All-Region squad.
