Two Pac-12 women's volleyball teams compete at NCAA Regionals
SAN FRANCISCO - No. 13 seed UCLA and No. 15 seed Washington have advanced to the second weekend of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship and are on the road for regional semifinal matches on Thursday, Dec. 9. The Bruins are at fourth-seeded Wisconsin at 2 p.m. PT and the Huskies are in Austin to take on second-seeded Texas at 4:30 p.m. PT. Both matches will be carried on ESPNU. With 16 teams remaining, the winners of the four regionals will move on to the national semifinals and championship matches in Columbus, Ohio on Dec. 16 and 18 at Nationwide Area.
UCLA's contest is a rematch from the second round in 2019, a 3-0 Wisconsin victory, and the winner will meet the winner of No. 5-seed Baylor and No. 12-seed Minnesota in Saturday's regional final. The Bruins, 8-3 against the NCAA Tournament field this season, have split their last 10 regional semifinal matches dating back to 2004.
In the Round of 16 for the ninth time in 10 seasons, Washington will face Texas for the first time in the NCAA Tournament with a chance at its third consecutive regional final appearance. Both programs were national semifinalists a season ago and the Longhorns were ultimately the NCAA runners-up. Thursday's winner will meet the winner of No. 10-seed Nebraska and unseeded Illinois in the regional final.
