Two Seniors Named Academic All-American

Dec 10, 2021

STANFORD, Calif. -  Zach Ryan and Andrew Aprahamian were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans on Friday. Ryan was named a first team selection while Aprahamian earned third team honors.

Ryan was recently also named an All-Region selection while the pair of seniors were both named CoSIDA Academic All-District last month.

This marked Ryan's second time earning the Academic All-American honor after also being named to the first team last season. The striker recorded a 3.54 GPA while studying Management Science & Engineering.

A two-year captain for the Cardinal, Ryan adds another accolade to a long list of accomplishments.

Stanford's leading goal scorer each of the last three seasons, reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year and first-team All-American in the spring, Ryan led all Cardinal with 31 career strikes, ranking 9th in program history, including 10 last season (ranking sixth nationally). Ryan has been named Pac-12 All-Conference four times in his career, and his 75 points rank eighth in program history.

Ryan's 31 goals have him positioned third all-time in the Pac-12 career record book, as well as in a tie for fifth all-time in points. Ryan's five goals this season were tied for the team lead and his 15 points were second behind Bouda.

This marked Aprahamian's first time being selected as an Academic All-American. The defender has a 3.65 GPA while earning a Master's Degree in Media Studies. He completed his Bachelor's Degree last year in Science, Technology & Society.

Aprahamian has been a leader for Stanford on and off the field. The senior featured in every match for the Cardinal this season, starting all but five. He's twice been named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and he was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic second team in 2018.

The Malvern, Pennsylvania native has also taken on leadership roles outside of soccer. He served on the fellowship of Christian athletes leadership team for three years, and served two years as the vice president of social events for the Stanford Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
