LOS ANGELES – Four members of the UCLA men's soccer program have been named to the 2021 Far West All-Region Team, it was announced by United Soccer Coaches.
Freshman center back Pietro Grassi was named to the First Team to lead the Bruins' honorees, while senior defender Ben Reveno, redshirt freshman midfielder Tucker Lepley, and graduate midfielder Yoni Sorokin were all tabbed to the Second Team. Each received All-Far West plaudits for the first time in their careers.
UCLA's four all-region picks are the most for the program since the 2015 season, and Grassi is the first true freshman Bruin to pick up First Team All-Region honors since Jose Hernandez and Jackson Yueill (also in 2015).
The Bruins' four honorees were tied for second-most in the region, trailing only No. 2-ranked Washington's five.
Grassi, Reveno, and Sorokin were all instrumental to a UCLA defensive effort that – over 17 regular season games – produced four shutouts and allowed one goal or fewer in all but six games. Sorokin also chipped in offensively with six points (two goals, two assists), and was the lone player in the Pac-12 with multiple penalty kick makes and an 100% conversion rate (2-2).
Lepley was one of the Bruins' most productive players on offense, as he led the squad in both assists (seven) and points (17) while finishing just one off the team lead in goals with five. He finished the season ranked fifth in the Pac-12 in assists and sixth in total points.
Earlier this season, Grassi and Sorokin picked up Second Team All-Pac-12 acclaim.
