Strong Showcase For GymDawgs Sets Tone For The Season
SEATTLE, WA- Following their annual Purple and Gold Exhibition that showcases the new Washington Gymnastic squad for the year, Head Coach Jen Llewellyn was proud of how her team performed.
"I think it was really exciting for the team to get into the arena and get that experience before our first official meet," Llewellyn said. "Our focus this last week was confidence and joy and just getting back into a normal season. It was really fun. I was very pleased with their energy from start to finish and focusing on controlling our controllable."
The 2021-2022 team represents the 48th squad in program history. Given that, the GymDawgs have named themselves the 'Great 48'.
Returning for the GymDawgs are seniors, Amara Cunningham and Brenna Brooks, along with 5th year senior, Geneva Thompson.
"Everyone just loves coming into the gym every day," Cunningham said. "Everyone comes in with a gritty face on and ready to work really hard. I see a difference in everyone's attitudes. We just want to go out and prove ourselves and prove the 'Great 48'. We are better than how we performed last year."
Other contributors for the Huskies will be sophomore, Skylar Killough-Wilhelm who brings depth on every event. Last season, Killough-Wilhelm posted high scores of 9.900 on floor and 9.875 on vault and beam respectively.
The next meet for the GymDawgs is the Collegiate Challenge in Anaheim, California on Saturday, January 8. The Huskies will host their first meet on January 22 against Cal.
