Pac-12 Women's Soccer lands national-best 11 selections in 2022 NWSL Draft

Dec 18, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO - For the third consecutive year, Pac-12 Women's Soccer saw 11 standout student-athletes selected to the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, headlined by STANFORD's Naomi Girma going No. 1 overall to the expansion San Diego Wave in Saturday's 2022 edition.

The 11 total selections were the most of any conference in the country, edging the ACC's 10, and the second-most in league history trailing only the 12 from 2017.

Girma is the fourth-ever Cardinal and fifth Pac-12 player to be selected No. 1 overall (2020 - Sophia Smith, STAN; 2019 - Tierna Davidson, STAN; 2018 - Andi Sullivan, STAN; 2013 - Zakiya Bywaters, UCLA). In addition to Girma at the top, three other Pac-12 stars went in the top 10 in USC's Savannah DeMelo at No. 4, UCLA's Mia Fishel at No. 5 and WASHINGTON STATE's Elyse Bennett at No. 7.

Since 2013, a total of 83 Pac-12 student-athletes have been drafted to the NWSL.
