SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State redshirt senior Devan Turner claimed a title at the Reno Tournament of Champions Sunday and for that, was named the Pac-12 Conference's Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday.
Turner went 6-0 on Sunday, picking up a pair of ranked victories en route to the crown at 133 pounds. He won the title via a 7-3 decision over No. 15 Chance Rich of Cal State Bakersfield. Turner had advanced to the title bout with a 5-0 victory over Stanford's Jackson Disario, ranked 33rd by Intermat.
Turner went 4-0 in bouts decided by decision. He also picked up a pin and major decision in Reno.
The Dixon, Calif., native improved to 12-4 this season and 76-48 for his career. He is the second Beaver to be named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week this season, following Mateo Olmos on Nov. 9.
The Beavers are back in action with a neutral-site contest versus Utah Valley on Jan. 2 in Boise, Idaho.
