LOS ANGELES – Four alumni of the UCLA baseball program were included in Baseball America's updated MLB Top Prospects reports, which rolled out over the month of December.

All four were ranked top-10 prospects within their organizations, with several of them being named projected MLB starters by 2025 and earning "best tool" acclaim.

The ranked prospects included 1B Michael Toglia (No. 2 – Colorado), OF Garrett Mitchell (No. 4 – Milwaukee), SS Matt McLain (No. 5 – Cincinnati), and INF Ryan Kreidler (No. 7 – Detroit).

Toglia – the highest-ranked Bruin alum in the Baseball America reports – was also listed as the Rockies' projected starting first baseman in 2025, and was cited as the best power-hitting prospect in the organization. Toglia was a three-year star at UCLA, slashing .307/.410/.573 including a standout junior year that saw him hit 17 home runs and produce a 1.016 OPS en route to being selected No. 23 overall in that summer's draft. He's hit 31 home runs and slugged .454 so far in his professional career, earning a spot in the 2021 Futures Game as part of MLB's All-Star Weekend.

Mitchell was featured heavily in the Brewers' prospect report, as Baseball America had him as Milwaukee's projected 2025 starter in right field as well as the organization's fastest baserunner and best defensive outfielder. The owner of a .327/.393/.478 career slash line at UCLA, he was picked No. 20 overall in the 2020 MLB Draft. After batting .367 with the Brewers during 2021 Spring Training, Mitchell went on to record a .388 OBP over two levels in his first professional season.

McLain was the most-recent Bruin player to feature in the top prospect reports, as the three-year starter was selected No. 17 overall in the 2021 MLB Draft after starting for three years at UCLA. He made his pro debut over the summer, hitting .283 with a .851 OPS over 33 games.

Kreidler was listed as the Tigers' projected 2025 starter at second base, and was noted as the best defensive infielder in the team's prospect pool. A career .261/.351/.409 hitter at UCLA, Kreidler had a breakout 2021 season in the Minors, hitting 22 home runs and earning a promotion to Triple-A Toledo.
