Evelien Lutje Schipholt Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week
SAN FRANCISCO – Cal women's basketball junior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. This is the second career Pac-12 weekly award for Lutje Schipholt, and her first Player of the Week honor.
The native of the Netherlands led the Bears to their ninth win of the season with a dominating 73-55 win over visiting Saint Mary's last Tuesday. In that contest, Lutje Schipholt led all scorers with 20 points while grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds, for her fifth double-double of the year.
She scored the Bears' first bucket, opened the contest 6-for-7 from the field, and scored 12 of her 20 points in the first quarter. She finished the matchup going 9-for-16 from the field, including 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also had two steals and a block. It is the third 20-point game of the season for Lutje Schipholt, and third of her career. The five double-doubles is tops in the Pac-12 and tied for 22nd most in the nation. She now has eight for her career.
For the year, Lutje Schipholt is averaging 10.9 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, while shooting .557 from the field (49-for-88). Her 10.9 points per contest is tied for second most on the team, while her 8.3 rebounds is tops on the Bears and fourth in the Pac-12. The last weekly honor for Lutje Schipholt came on Nov. 25, 2019, when she was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.
The 9-2 Golden Bears return to action on Friday when they open Pac-12 play at Washington State. Friday's contest is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m. The game between the Bears and Cougars will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
