Pro Bears NFL Week 17

Jan 4, 2022
Cameron Jordan continued his strong late-season play in New Orleans' Week 17 win over Carolina.

Cameron Jordan highlighted NFL Week 17 performances by former Cal players who finished their collegiate careers with the Golden Bears when he recorded eight tackles 3.5 sacks, three tackles for loss and three quarterback hits in New Orleans' 18-10 home victory over Carolina to keep the Saints' playoff hopes alive. On Wednesday, Jordan was named the NFC's Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks for his performance.

Jordan, who was named to his seventh Pro Bowl this season, now has 11.0 sacks on the season including 7.5 in his last three games after missing the lone contest of his 11-year NFL career while on the reserve/COVID-19 list for the team's Week 14 victory at the New York Jets. Jordan has now recorded double-digit sack totals in six of his first 11 seasons in the NFL to tie Rickey Jackson for the most in Saints' history.

Jordan is one of six Pro Bears on active rosters of teams battling for a playoff spot in their final game of the regular season on Sunday along with Keenan Allen (Los Angeles Chargers), Stephen Anderson (Los Angeles Chargers), DeSean Jackson (Las Vegas), Alex Mack (San Francisco) and Patrick Mekari (Baltimore).

The Chargers and Raiders will play the final game of the NFL's regular season in Las Vegas on Sunday evening (5:25 pm PT NBC) to determine one of two remaining AFC playoff positions, while Mack's 49ers will take the NFC's final opening with a win at the Los Angeles Rams (1:25 pm PT, FOX). Jordan and the Saints visit Atlanta at the same time of the 49ers-Rams contest (also on FOX) and need both a win over the Falcons and a 49ers' loss to the Rams to get in. Mekari and the Ravens host Pittsburgh (10 am PT, CBS) and to reach the playoffs need a victory over the Steelers, as well as wins by Las Vegas, New England and Jacksonville over the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami and Indianapolis.

The former Bears who secure playoff spots Sunday will join Bryan Anger (Dallas) and Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay) in the postseason. Anger and Rodgers helped the Cowboys and Packers clinch NFC East and NFC North titles to highlight NFL Week 16 performances in team's prior games and the Packers wrapped up the NFC's top seed, home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs and an opening-round bye with a 37-10 Week 17 win over Minnesota. Rodgers, a strong candidate to repeat as the NFL's MVP, completed 29-of-38 passes for 288 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 114.8 passer rating in the victory. The NFC's Offensive Player of the Month in December and NFL's leader in passer rating (111.1) has 18 touchdowns without an interception over the Packers' last six games.

Three other former Cal players – Ian Bunting (Dallas), Richard Rodgers II (Philadelphia) and Davis Webb (Buffalo) – are on practice squads of teams that have secured playoff berths, while Tyson Alualu's Pittsburgh squad needs a Week 18 win at Baltimore as well as a Jacksonville victory over Indianapolis and anything but a tie in Chargers-Raiders' game.

Following is how each of Cal's 26 former players on active NFL rosters (16), injured/reserve lists (2), practice squads (4, and coaching staffs (4) fared in Week 16, as well as a brief season summary, their team's 2021 record and playoff position, and Week 18 information.
