Mathurin Named to Wooden Award Midseason Watch List
TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona sophomore guard Bennedict Mathurin was one of 25 men's college basketball players across the country to be named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List that was announced on Wednesday (Jan. 5).
Mathurin, a native of Montreal, is averaging 18.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He's shooting 50.6% from the floor and 38.6% from the 3-point line. He scored a season-high 30 points at Illinois earlier this season and has seven total games of 20-plus points. Earlier this year, he became just the third Arizona player to ever be named Pac-12 Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks and earned USBWA National Player of the Week.
If Mathurin would go on to win the Wooden Award at the end of the year, he would join Sean Elliott in 1989 as the only Arizona players to receive the award.
