Jan 5, 2022

COMPLETE RELEASE

#PAC12MBB STARTING FIVE:

1-of-3 - USC is 1-of-3 undefeated teams remaining in NCAA Division I through Jan. 4 games (Baylor, Colorado State).

  • At 12-0, the Trojans are off to their best start since 2016-17 (14-0) and tied for the fifth-best start in program history (1909-10 - 17-0; 1970-71 - 16-0; 2016-17 - 14-0; 1939-40 - 13-0; 2021-22 & 1924-25 - 12-0).
  • USC’s start is the best for a Pac-12 program since 2017-18 (Arizona State 12-0).

3 - Pac-12 Men’s Basketball has been historically strong at the top so far in 2021-22 with the trio of ARIZONA, UCLA and USC ranked in the Associated Press Top 10.

  • The three teams appear in the AP Top 10 (No. 5 UCLA, No. 7 USC, No. 8 ARIZONA) for the fourth consecutive week. The four weeks of three AP Top 10 teams is the third-longest for the Conference in poll history (since 1949), bettered only by totals of seven weeks in 2016-17 and 1997-98.
  • It marks eight consecutive weeks with three AP Top 25 programs, the longest stretch of three ranked teams for the Conference since 2016-17 (all 19 weeks).

4 - Four Pac-12 standouts were named to the John R. Wooden Award National Player of the Year Midseason Top 25 on Wednesday. The four midseason candidates are the second-most of any conference (Big Ten - 9) and the most for the Conference since the 2017-18 season.

  • Jaime Jaquez Jr., UCLA
  • Johnny Juzang, UCLA
  • Bennedict Mathurin, Arizona
  • Isaiah Mobley, USC

5 - After USC’s current 12-game win streak - the second-longest in NCAA Division I (Baylor 20) - the Pac-12’s second-best active win streak belongs to CALIFORNIA at five consecutive victories.

  • It marks the Golden Bears’ longest win streak since a five-game Conference win streak during the 2016-17 season. The Bears last had a lengthier win streak during the 2015-16 campaign (seven straight wins).
  • California also owns the Pac-12’s second-longest home court win streak with nine straight victories at Haas Pavilion; only ARIZONA’s 10 straight home wins at McKale Center is a longer active streak.

13, 8 - Two of the five longest Conference series win streaks are slated to be on the line this Saturday, including the current longest active series streak.

  • UTAH has won a Conference-leading 13 consecutive contests against WASHINGTON STATE dating to 2014. The Cougars’ last win in the series came Jan. 12, 2014 in Pullman (49-46).
  • UCLA has won its last eight meetings with CALIFORNIA, tied as the fifth-longest series win streak in the league.
